Everything You Really Should Know........

Let us talk, today, about sex.

You may be seeking a greater spiritual connection and sexual activity would appear to be the antithesis of that.
Why do you believe this?

You seek enlightenment through controlled, repetitive, directed activity, such as focused meditation, prayer or chanting. The purpose of these activities is to move beyond the activity into a state of unrestrained bliss and pleasure.

Sound familiar? A deliberate, directed action that erupts into chaos.

Ancient societies incorporated sex into their spiritual practices as it was thought to bring about a communion with the Divine.  There are a few in your modern society that still practice this.

So how did a holy act become a shameful abomination, used only reluctantly for procreation?

Your judgment of sex comes from a primal fear of vulnerability. A cave dweller enjoying an intimate evening with a mate, a tribal celebration that erupts into group sex, set upon by an enemy or predator and unable to defend themselves, would be a serious concern.

Ancient superstitions of  “punishment” and “wrath of the gods” grew up around these fears. They were picked up by societies and religions as a means of controlling the population.

“But what about young people? What about sexual predators?” you ask.

Your young ones have natural feelings that you fail to explain to them, or convince them that they are unnatural. They rebel against you and have sex because they cannot overcome these urges and because it is forbidden.

Sexual predators do harm. That is never acceptable. Usually, they operate from a sense of deep shame that was instilled in them through humiliation or abuse.

Consensual, safe sex behind closed doors harms no one. The only Divine hand at work is the one who gave you these urges that lead to amazing pleasure.

What a generous gift to waste over guilt.

Enjoy your sexual pleasure. While you travel through your life, on this planet, it is an experience not to be missed. ~Silas

The Gift of Self-Control

There are times in your life where you relax, let go of the rules and just have fun.

You may dance, sing loudly, drink or eat foods that you normally don’t eat.

You say to yourself, “Enough of the rules, tonight I will let go and enjoy myself.”

Then you do. Until the next day when you wake up late and guilty and swear that you will never allow yourself that freedom again, but you do, eventually, and the cycle continues.

The real villain is not your craving, it is guilt. You keep yourself so tightly restricted that eventually, you grow tired and must loosen your grip.

Then you overindulge. You become a mindless machine that cannot turn itself off. You eat massive amounts of junk food, play hours of video games, drink until you are sick, then you enforce a state of famine.

Your body, mind and emotions feel deprived. This spiritual hunger grows until you can stand it no longer and you let go and indulge again.

To break this cycle, use your head. Practice doing the things you enjoy, mindfully.

Try cutting your food into small bites and chew slowly. Enjoy the mixture of flavors, feel the food fill your stomach until you are satisfied.

If you drink, sip slowly. Feel the warmth of the liquid, the tingling on your tongue, the pleasant buzz in your head as the drink hits your bloodstream.

If it helps to think of this as a spiritual practice, go ahead. It is.

Whatever you do, be present. Give 100% of yourself to the task. Feel the satisfaction that results from a job well done. Marvel about the amazing feats you can accomplish when you pay attention to the task at hand.
Try this once a day, then more if you like.

Slow down and capture every minute of this amazing life on Earth. It goes by very quickly.

Give your life more attention and you will find that you have all of the self-control that you need.

What is that you say? You cannot do this? That is your guilt talking.

Have a cookie. Take small bites, chew, enjoy. That should quiet him down.

Self-Inflicted Nonsense

There are many among you who like to hear of the concepts of guilt and sin. It is not a bad idea, to make sure that you are doing no harm and not creating karma that will harm or distress you. But you do make sins of th littlest things.

Having a cookie or an extra piece of cake is only a sin against the pretty dress you want to wear. Sitting in your home and drinking too much may result in a type of Hell the following morning, but will not physically send you here. Dressing seductively is about your own feelings of confidence or insecurity. Spirit does not care where your neckline falls.

The only guilt-creating sin you can committ is to harm your fellow humans. To eat cake is not a sin. To poison a cake and deliberately give it to another would put it into that category. To drink s not a sin, but to drink and hit another person during an argument, might give you some uncomfortable karma to face. To love another and leave the relationship when you are unhappy, is nothing to feel guilty about. To seduce a person and open their heart, with no intention of loving them, or using love for financial gain or power, will usually result in the pain or loss that means the most to you.

But none of these are truly sins. They are energy that comes back to you in a more intense manner than when you sent it out. The Universe must balance itself. It isn't personal.

Jinnzania's side notes: I grew up with the idea that at our very best, we are all unworthy sinners. To even think a bad thought, is a punishable offense. I assume that the original intent was to discourage inappropriate or harmful behavior. I did okay with some things. With others, I just gave up. I mean, why bother if there is no hope.

Then, I gave up the idea.

I was always kind to others and tried to do no harm. I made friends despite my social challenges, I realized it felt good to help and show love to those around me. I no longer needed the "training wheels" of religion to make me do it for fear of punishment. So I took off on two wheels and have been there ever since. It seems I can move much faster that way.
